Don't just take our word for it. Here's what travellers, cyclists, hikers and locals say about their time at The Top Pub.

"As 5 cyclists touring Tasmania we stayed one night. The staff rearranged bookings to accommodate us — brilliant. Beds were very comfortable. Good thing after cycling from Waratah over Mt Black. The Top Pub delivered."
"The overriding impression was the friendliness of the staff. Meals in the dining room were very good — no frills country style. For a small pub in a small town there's a surprisingly good choice of wine. Definitely worth a second visit."
"The accommodation and meals are amazing. What a great place to relax after a hard day riding the dirt roads of Tasmania. First time, definitely not my last."
"Rosebery is ideal cycling distance from Cradle Valley. The Top Pub was perfect — a warm room, a good meal, and everything we needed to push on the next day. It's exactly what this part of Tasmania needs."
"Hot food after a long drive, large freshly cooked portions, friendly and efficient service. The three of us had great meals. A real find on the west coast. The pub is popular with local workers and tourists alike."
The Top Pub has stood at the corner of Agnes Street since 1930 — serving miners, travellers, families and workers through every chapter of Rosebery's remarkable story.
Prospector Tom McDonald discovers gold and zinc-lead sulphide on the slopes of Mount Black. The Rosebery Prospecting Association is formed, and a mining town begins to take shape deep in the west coast wilderness.
The Electrolytic Zinc Company purchases the mines, builds housing for workers and begins construction of an elaborate aerial ropeway to carry ore from the Hercules Mine. Rosebery grows into a self-contained mining community.
The Top Pub is constructed on Agnes Street, built to serve the growing mining community of Rosebery. From day one, its purpose was clear — cold drinks, hot meals and a warm welcome for the men who worked the mines of the west coast.
The Rosebery Mill is commissioned in February 1936, beginning what would become one of Australia's longest unbroken stretches of continuous mining operation. The pub becomes the natural gathering place for an increasingly busy workforce.
The aerial ore ropeway from the Hercules Mine, an icon of Rosebery's industrial landscape, ceases operation in 1986 after more than 50 years. The Top Pub continues to serve generation after generation of west coast mining families.
MMG Rosebery marks 90 years of continuous operation in 2026 — one of Australia's longest-running mines, employing over 700 people and planning operations well beyond a century. The Top Pub remains what it has always been: the miners' pub.
The Top Pub has outlasted booms, busts, floods and fire. It's been renovated and refreshed but never lost its character. Locals, miners, travellers and adventurers all still find their way here — just as they have for nearly 100 years.
MMG Rosebery produces zinc, lead, copper, silver and gold from one of the world's largest polymetallic ore bodies. The mine has the potential to operate well beyond 100 years of continuous production — and The Top Pub plans to be here for every year of it.
Rosebery's mining heritage is visible all around town — from the remnants of the Hercules aerial ore ropeway that crosses the road on the outskirts of town, to the Heritage Miners Cottage and the Man Cars at the Heritage Centre on the Murchison Highway.
The Top Pub is part of that heritage. Built in 1930 to quench the thirst and fill the bellies of west coast miners, it has stood through nearly a century of booms and busts — and it's still standing strong.
Rosebery sits at the centre of some of Tasmania's most spectacular and least-visited wilderness. Here's what's on your doorstep.
